NOTES ON CONDITION

Every seller grades their items a little differently. Here is a helpful guide to our condition grading system.

Very Fine Or Like New: As new, crisp and unread. Pristine. The dust jacket (if issued with one) is bright, with no wear and/or tears. May have the merest hint of shelf wear. Essentially flawless and immaculate. It is very unusual for a rare or collectible book to be in very fine condition.

Fine: Little to no wear. Close to very fine, however may have been read gently and with care. The dust jacket (if published with one) is present and remains bright. Any flaws to book or jacket are very minor and always noted.

Near Fine: A book that falls somewhere between Very Good and Fine. Indicates a book that is close to fine, with a tiny bit more wear. The dust jacket (if published with one) is included and remains bright, however there may be minor edge wear and handling wear. Book is clean and bright, however may have a few indications of shelf wear and reading wear. Any flaws are small and always noted.

Very Good: A nice copy, but shows signs of shelf wear and reading wear. Dust jacket (if published with one) may be rubbed, chipped, or have small tears, but overall is clean and bright. The text is clean and the binding strong. May have an owner name or bookplate. Depending on the book’s age and rarity may occasionally have foxing or be an ex-library. Flaws are always noted and the wear is relatively light. Overall remains a nice, presentable and respectable copy.

Good: An okay copy, the dust jacket may be missing, however all pages are present and text remains readable. There may be some marks, notations, soiling, tears, etc. Binding is intact, however may be cocked and/or fragile. May have some light water damage. All flaws are noted. Overall remains a solid copy.

Acceptable/Fair: Moderate to heavy wear. May have numerous marks and/or soiling. Binding may be broken. However all text is included. May have moderate water damage. Can be used as a reading copy. All flaws are noted, however can be generalized due their extent.

Poor: Very heavy wear. Pages may be missing. Binding may be broken and pages loose. May have heavy water damage, soiling, and markings. Usually an undesirable copy, but in cases of extremely rare titles, will be presented for sale. Flaws are always noted, however can be generalized due to their extent.
